No where else is the world can you find this freshwater sardine but in Taal Lake! That makes Tawilis a rare and attractive dish for tourists. It is notable for its taste, texture, and the ability to eat it whole, head, scales and tale included! Its best served with diced tomatoes, onions, green mangoes and the native bagoong (fish paste). Because of its rarity you can not find it in abundance, even in Taal’s market. Fortunately, most of the eateries in town offer it on their menu.
